Bangladesh, our beloved motherland, is the playground of nature’s unspoilt beauty. On one side of it lies the horizon-wide blue waters of the Bay of Bengal; and on whose proud mountain peaks the cool breeze from the waves of the blue ocean blow stretches the sky-high boundaries of Bangladesh - a remote woodsy human habitation spotted with enchanting stretches of blue hills and valleys that we call Bandarban. The diversity of Bandarban bears its unique characteristics - the diversities of nature, of flora and fauna, of colourful peoples and their rich cultures. Somewhere in all these variety a singular melody has melted into the great unity in diversity. Only in this district one can find all the small ethnic communities of the greater Chittagong Hill Tracts including the Marmas, Mros, Tripuras, Bawms, Tanchangyas, Chakmas, Chaks, Khyangs, Khumis, Lushais and Pangkhuas living in a bond of amity. No other district of Bangladesh can boast of such diversity of different peoples and cultures. The peaceful coexistence of the multi-ethnic and multi-lingual communities of Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, the hill folks and Bengalis since time immemorial in the area has turned it into the most peaceful part of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. And this has made Bandarban into a lively hub of colourful cultural traditions. Because of the remoteness and unfriendly natural environment the lifestyle of the ethnic communities especially their folk cultures have remained far-flung from the national mainstream cultural traditions.
